  1. Frozen food stays good for as long as it's kept in the freezer.
  2. The Correct Answer:
    Your Answer:

The correct answer: True. Foods frozen at 0°F are safe to eat indefinitely, though flavor and texture may change with time, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.

  3. If you see a spot of mold on your Cheddar, you can cut it off and eat the rest.
  4. The Correct Answer:
    Your Answer:

The correct answer: True. A bit of mold on hard cheeses like Cheddar or Parmesan can be trimmed off, 1 inch around and below the spot (be careful not to touch the mold with your knife to prevent cross contamination). But soft varieties such as Brie or cottage cheese can be affected below the surface, so if you see mold, throw it out.

  5. Rinsing eggs before cracking removes bacteria lurking on the shells.
  6. The Correct Answer:
    Your Answer:

The correct answer: False. Rinsing eliminates the protective coating added to already sanitized grocery store eggs. The USDA requires that all graded eggs go through this process.

  7. It's best to thaw a frozen chicken breast in the microwave.
  8. The Correct Answer:
    Your Answer:

The correct answer: False. Microwave thawing is safe but only recommended if you plan to prepare the food immediately — it begins the cooking process, which can allow bacteria to grow. Otherwise, let chicken thaw in the fridge.

  9. Leftovers should be frozen or refrigerated within 2 hours of cooking.
  10. The Correct Answer:
    Your Answer:

The correct answer: True. Two hours is the maximum time that perishable foods can sit out at room temperature — which includes the time they're on the table during your meal.

This awesome test came from health.msn.com. it's rather useful and i feel like forwarding it to my mum but i am too lazy to do so now. shall do so later. =)

my... yesterday was a rather bad day. On a happier note, this morning I just received my goody bag for the Great Eastern fun run. It is probably the coolest gooody bag ever! Has the usual brochures blah stuff, discount vouchers for swensens, brewerkz, Asience shampoo & condition + some hair mist thing which is exactly what i need in hall, a nice small packet of cereal, sunblock. All in wonderful tiny packaging! i absolutely love tiny packaging... Maybe that's why I have a thing for goody bags! oh plus this wristband, my rather oversized "XS" adidas running top & bib with my wonderful name printed on it. After being a biz mag, I can totally appreciate the tremendous effort put into such stuff. Oh yea... and after being reminded that the run is to take place next week, we went jogging at that lakeside park (don't really know the exact name). But I finally completed my target route! Still had that tight chest and hurting calves, but I feel rather proud of myself for persevering! And it wasn't that bad... Maybe cos I was running at a turtle's pace. I am so not going to scoff at those people who run as though they're walking; It really does help you cope with long distances. the bottom line is that I kept going for about half an hour which is much better than my usual.
Must motivate self to run in school nxt week to prepare!

this is one of those lab reports that makes me feel so utterly stupid and helpless and dependent. I realise that i could never do without referring to another classmate's lab reports and i wonder how long i'm going to survive in sbs like this. i wasted an entire afternoon just staring blankly. most of my classmates at least have some sort of inkling of what to do. but lemmee tell you most of the time my mind is just one big blank thing. I don't even have an idea on what to do. And not having anyone around right now is stressing me out further because i know i dont really understand the concepts well, and i need someone to explain. But i think i've been bugging most of my friends enough and i already feel bad enough for that. this is just so dumb and pointless.

i often find myself getting very angry over the smallest things. I suppose its a flaw in some of us girls... That we tend to focus on the smaller details and draw our conclusions from them. I know its ridiculous but sometimes there's some truth in our inferences. However at other times, we're just blowing the most trivial things out of proportion. Maybe I should just learn not to expect perfection from everybody; after all everyone has their slip-ups every now and then. Then I wouldn't get upset so often. Getting angry leads to the release of certain stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. I heard that too much of these in your system can adversely affect your health in the long term. Not going to go into details because I have a horrendously confusing report on RT-PCR that I have not done. Anyway, I ought to stop getting pissed unneccessarily. =| Will go stuff myself with ice-cream, left over noodles and enjoy the rest of the soon-to-be-rainy afternoon doing work!

It's been 2 weeks since white hammy passed away. This is a little photo tribute to my dear late hammies. I don't have many pictures of them cos they liked to move around quite a bit... It wasn't easy taking nice photos. They had been with me for only 2 short but significant years of my life and they even helped me to get through breakups! They were bundles of joy for me, and their strange antics amused my house guests and never failed to cheer me up.

This is the night they came in a little microwaveable plastic box with holes in it. The first thing they did when they were put into the Nike dunks shoe box was to stand up straight and walk around upright at the same time (probably to stretch). Super duper cute i tell you. Too bad i didn't have a camera prepared. They were born in an NUS hostel and were kindly given to me by xianjie (The twin's acjc classmate). They were about 5cm long. Apparently born somewhere in october... not sure what date. Breed: winter whites. Apparently they change their fur colour if you bring them to a cold country but I never got to try that =\

They loved to fight a lot and pushed each other off the food, wheel and cage door, and they were horrendously noisy at night. I think it was some sort of love-hate relationship between them cos they still squished their fat bodies together in a small corner when they slept. White hammy got really fat cos he always manages to steal brown hammy's food. Brown hammy also had this rather strange habit of sleeping on the top part of the wheel (He wedged himself into the space in between the cage and the wheel and stuck his legs out) And when u tickle his feet he kind of wakes up and falls off. You can see that his tumor was already growing rather big by then. We did bring him to the vet to get medicine, but the operation would be too risky. Back then, Brown hammy was the one favoured by everyone, cos he was the friendlier and the more docile of the two. White hammy was rather aloof and would nip and resist carrying. But when it came to hand feeding, he'd respond quickly.
White hammy got rather lonely after brown hammy passed away, and from then on he was completely silent. My mum says he tried to bury him with bedding, and didn't respond much to her for like a couple of days. :( It was during my exams and I didn't get to know about it till 2 weeks after.

We had 2 extra houses for white hammy by this time, and we discovered the jogging ball (I know i'm living under a rock). So we tried to make things more fun for him by letting him run around the house in his blue jogging ball. As you can see, he also got a bigger better water bottle.
Charles thinks he sort of withered away after brown hammy left. We paid him a lot more attention, and we bought cotton balls for him to lie on and peppermint sand for him the bathe in. He got friendlier, but lonelier. Some months later he lost his hair and got rather skinny and fragile. I was rather disturbed because ants started to come into his cage to steal his food. Ant bait and traps just didnt help :( It was rather heartbreaking, his last night. He couldn't stand up properly to feed himself so I had to tip his food bowl to feed him. and he burrowed into his cotton ball. He did look kind of sad like he knew he was gonna go soon or something. I don't have a nice picture of him looking all withered and old and anyway i'd like to remember him with the pretty coat of white fur.

We disposed of the cage and everything:( My mum insisted on it. And we also put white hammy in his jar of food (I'd think he would have loved to be buried with his favourite stuff) and cotton balls. I'm just glad that Charles was there for me the night he passed away.
